Refining Challenge-Based Learning in the ECIU University. Educating for Impact through Reflexivity with a Collaborative, Multi-Stakeholder approach in Innovative Teaching

In this session, two students (one from Hamburg University of Technology and one from University of Aveiro) present their research on factors that foster or hinder the integration of lifelong learners (LLL) within ECIU Challenges 2026. Drawing on interviews and questionnaire data, they will share insights into key dimensions of LLL integration and propose adaptations to the CBL Compass framework developed by van den Beemt. Framed by the Wheel of Innovation perspective, the session highlights the need to design and continuously improve educational ecosystems that actively involve all stakeholders (students, staff, and educators) in shaping a future-oriented university.

Futuremakers: Driving Impact Through Critical Thinking and Cooperative Learning in Education

This talk positions Education as a catalyst for social change, highlighting the role of schools in fostering sociocritical scientific literacy through Science, Technology and Society (STS) approaches. Through innovative didactic resources and case-based examples, it explores how classrooms can become spaces for cooperation, dialogue, and critical enquiry—connecting learning to real-world challenges such as environmental issues and AI-driven digital culture. The session emphasises strategies to develop critical thinking and collaborative learning, showing how Education can empower learners as active, informed citizens. Interactive elements—including short polls and reflective prompts—invite participants to engage, share perspectives, and collectively reimagine teaching for impactful 21st-century education.
